Chris John is an Indonesian best boxer. He is listed as the 3rd Indonesian boxer who won the world title, after Ellyas Pical and Nico Thomas. He was trained by his father, Johan Tjahjadi, who was a former amateur boxer since age 5 years. latr he recruited by a boxing trainer Sutan Rambing.
In his proffesional debute against Firman Kanda in 1998, Chris John wins the six rounds match. His name became very popular when he managed to knock down the favorite boxer Muhammad Alfaridzi, in a 12 rounds tense match. Chris John was knockdown twice in round one, but he managed to reverse the situation by hitting KO Alfaridzi in the 12th round, at the same time seize national featherweight championship.
On 26 September 2003, Chris John fought Oscar Leon from Colombia in Bali. In a 12-rounds match, Chris John wins a split decision, and entitled to interim title. Soon, the WBA gave the title to Chris John, when the former champion Derrick Gainer (United States) lost from Juan Manuel Marquez (Mexico, IBF champion). According to the WBA regulations, Marquez declared as super champion super because it managed to unite WBA and IBF titles, and Chris John as a regular champion.
Chris John will defend his title by facing Fernando David Saucedo of Argentina in Jakarta, on 4 December 2010.
Chris John is married to Anna Maria Megawati, former wushu athlete, in 2005, and has two daughters named Mary Luna Ferisha and Maria Rosa Christiani.
