Floods in Jakarta, enjoy it :)

Major floods hit Jakarta on Thursday, January 17, 2013. But it seems not everyone becomes stressed by it. Some people even try to enjoy this condition.

Daniel from New Zealand, is one of them. He claimed to be punk rock group guitarist Citizen Useless, that was performing at some places in Jakarta. Daniel lived in the Pluit apartment and were heading to his friend's house in Rasuna apartment. With a black shirt, brown shorts, and black converse shoes, he tried surfing. At first he tried to surf himself but failed. Finally he hired a rider to pull him and Daniel had enjoy 'surfing'.

Tor Tor Dance


Tor Tor Dance
Tor-Tor dance is a traditional dance from Batak tribe in North Sumatra, a dance rhythm with a musical accompaniment (Margondang). There is no certainty of data, who is the creator of this dance or when the dance was first played. According to the story, they danced the Tor-Tor when there is a customary ritual, such as marriage, nor the king's inauguration. This dance is also often played when there are family members who died, also. But now, Tor-Tor is not only played when there is a special ritual, Tor-Tor is also a welcome dance when there are tourists visiting the North Sumatra.

Daud "Cino" Jordan Wins Again Lorenzo Villanueva


Despite falling in the first round, Indonesian boxer, Daud "Cino" Jordan claims World International Boxing Organisation (IBO) featherweight champion title, after knocking out his opponent Lorenzo Villanueva from Philippines in the second round.

In the main event, Chris John defeated Shoji Kimura to retain his WBA featherweight title for the 16th time. He won by scores of 118-109, 118-109, 117-110. He improved to 47-0-2.

Chris John will Face Shoji Kimura in Singapura


World WBA featherweight super champion boxer from Indonesia Chris "the Dragon" John will be defending his title against Japan's Shoji Kimura in the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, on Saturday, May 5, 2012. Chris John will attempt to retain the title for the 16th time.

Chris John, 32, is an undefeated fighter with a fight record of 46-0-2 (22 KOs). While Kimura, 34, has a fight record of 24-4-2 with 9 KOs. Chris John claimed to have hit a new technique called "Dragon Fire Punch".

This is the first world championship boxing title fight in Singapore, since the Indonesian boxer Elly Pical defend his World IBF Super Fly title by beating Mike Phelps in 1989.

Large earthquake hits off Sumatra


An earthquake with a magnitude of 8.5 shook the west coast of Sumatra Island on Wednesday, April 11th, 2011 at 15:38 West Indonesia Time. The quake had a depth of 29 kilometres. The epicenter was about 431 kilometres southwest of Banda Aceh, the capital of province of Aceh, Sumatra island. The quake shook Nangroe Aceh Darussalam, Bengkulu, Lampung, West Sumatra and North Sumatra.

In Banda Aceh, the quake terrified residents rushed out of their homes, and go to higher ground. The electricity and telephone line are also interrupted by the earthquake.

Chris John Wins Again Stanyslav Merdov


Chris John
Indonesian WBA featherweight super champion Chris John successfully defended his title by winning the Ukrainian Stanyslav Merdov Wednesday night in Challenge Stadium, Perth, Australia. Despite falling in the second round, Merdov gave stiff resistance for 12 rounds. "The Dragon" won with scores of 116-111, 116-111 and 115-112 for the win by unanimous decision. While Merdov's record is 32 wins (24 KOs) and 8 loses.

With this victory, Chris John stretched his record to 46-0-2, with 22 KOs. It makes Chris John extends to 15 victories in the title fight. Next, Chris John is scheduled to face the WBA first ranked Yuriorkis Gamboa from Cuba.

26th SEA Games Jakarta-Palembang
Indonesia SEA Games 2011 will be held in 11 days (from November 11 - November 22) in two host cities, Jakarta and Palembang, with 542 gold medals to be competed through 44 sports. This year is the fourth time for Indonesia to be host country for Southeast Asian countries sports festival after in SEA Games X 1979, SEA Games XV 1987, dan SEA Games XIX 1997.

In Jakarta, competition venues will be centered in Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), This stadium is the largest and oldest stadium in Indonesia.

Djohar Arifin Husein, New PSSI Chairman


Prof. Djohar Arifin Husein was elected as Chairman of PSSI for 2011-2015, Saturday July 9, 2011. In PSSI Extraordinary Congress at The Sunan Hotel, Solo, in the second round of elections, Djohar got 61 votes, while his rival Agusman Effendi only got 38 votes. One vote declared invalid. In the first round, Djohar won with 53 votes, while Agusman got 39 votes. Japto S. Soerjosoemarno who received 4 votes, withdrew from second round.

Djohar got support from Group of 78 who previously insisted nominate George Toisutta who rejected by FIFA.

Chris John Successfully Defended His Title



WBA featherweight super champion, Chris "The Dragon" John successfully defended his title after defeating the challenger - also from Indonesia, Daud "Cino" Yordan, Sunday (17/4). 3 judges gave scores 112-116, 112-116 and 111-117, all for Chris John's victory.

More experienced, Chris John gave more serious blows to his opponent. His blow variations are difficult to anticipate by Daud Yordan. Instead, Daud Yordan was too easily provoked that his punches are less effective.

2 Bombs In Jakarta


A package addressed to the leaders of the Jaringan Islam Liberal (Liberal Islam Network), Ulil Abshar Abdalla arrive at radio news KBR 68 H which is also the office of the Liberal Islam Network. The package that contains a book under the title 'Mereka Harus Dibunuh karena Dosa-dosa Mereka terhadap Islam dan Kaum Muslimin' (They must murdered for their sins against Islam and Muslims) was received at 10:00 am.

Around 13:30, the package received by Saidiman, a spokesman for the Community of Utan Kayu. When officers checked it with metal detectors, its suddenly showing that there is metal inside. The police arrive at about 14:00 pm. Gegana team also contacted. After two hours, and the Gegana team still has not arrived, Police Commissioner Dodi Rahmawan finally took the initiative to open the package after flushing it with water. But at around 16.05 pm, the package exploded, and he lost his left hand. 3 others injured.

'Crop Circle' In Sleman

Residents of Sleman, Yogyakarta, was shocked by the signs that appear mysteriously in the rice field after the winds. The large circle appears in the middle of rice field in the area of Mount Suru, Jogotirto, Berbah. There are mysterious symbol at center of the giant circle, which is formed by the rice that fell after the high winds. Some locals believe the giant ring-shaped marks as aircraft landing of Unidentified Flying Object (UFO). This incident is believed to be the first time that happened in Indonesia, although it's also happening in various locations in the world.

Compared to events those occurred in other places, crop circle that occurred in Sleman relatively much smaller, its diameter only about 70 meters. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of locals.

Demands of national football lovers for Nurdin Halid, PSSI (Persatuan Sepakbola Seluruh Indoensia = Indonesian Football Association) chairman to resign continues. Sasando


Sasando"
Sasando is a stringed musical instrument from Rote Island, Nusa Tenggara Timur (Eastern Lesser Sundas). In Rote language, "sasandu" means vibrating or sounded instrument. It's said Sasando already in use among the Rote community since the 7th century. At first glance, Sasando looks similar to other stringed instruments such as guitar, violin and harp.

The principal part of Sasando is a long cylinder commonly made of bamboo. The central is circle from the top to the bottom and there are some wedges where the strings are stretched, from the top to the bottom. These wedges give different tones to each picked string. This Sasando tube was placed in a container made from Gebang (a kind of woven palm) leaves that made like a fan. This is where the resonance of sasando comes from.

Sasando has many strings. Sasando with 28 strings are termed Sasando Engkel. Another type; Sasando Doble, has 56 strings. There's even a Sasando with 84 strings.

WBA Super World featherweight title - Chris John UD 12 Fernando David Saucedo


WBA featherweight champion from Indonesia, Chris John, extending his title after being declared unanimous decision victory over the 15th rank from Argentina, Fernando Saucedo, the 12-round bout at the Closed Tennis Stadium Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta, Sunday, December 5th. Three judges gave points 119-109, 119-109, and 120-108 for Chris john's victory.

With this victory Chris John match record up to 44 wins (22 by knockout), two draws, and never lost.

In a match that was witnessed by about 1,000 spectators, Chris John was aggressive and somewhat emotional. This is due to his opponent continues to keep a distance and stick with a tight double cover. This makes difficult for Chris John to cast an effective blow at a distance. Many Chris John's blow didn't hit the target because his opponent has moved backwards.

Sheikh Puji sentenced to 4 Years Prison


After repeated trials which took a long time, defendant breach the Child Protection Act, Pujiono Cahyo Widianto (or known as Sheikh Puji) was sentenced to four years in prison and a fine of 60 million rupiah subsidiary of four months in prison, by the Ungaran District Court judge, Semarang regency, Central Java, on Wednesday (November 24, 2010).

Sheikh Puji sentencing hearing lasted nearly 6 hours, starting at 09.30 am until 15:30 pm, with a tight guard of police officers. In the trial, Sheikh Puji accompanied by his lawyer, OC Kaligis. The judges said Sheikh Puji has been proven to have violated Article 81 of Law No.23 Year 2002 on Child Protection, intentionally commit violence or threats of violence, forcing children to perform sexual intercourse with him or anyone else. Sheikh Puji is also presumed to wedge right of the child for having married Lutviana Ulfa, which on August 8, 2008 was only 12 years old.

Mentawai Islands


Mentawai Islands are part of a series of non-volcanic islands located at 150 km off the west coast of Sumatra Island. This regency consists of four islands: Siberut, Sipora, Pagai Utara (North Pagai) and Pagai Selatan (South Pagai) island, inhabited by a majority of the people of Mentawai tribe. There are several other small islands (total of 213 Islands), mostly uninhabited.

Mbah Maridjan (Mas Penewu Suraksohargo) is a gatekeeper of Merapi volcano, which is mandate from Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX. He started as a gatekeeper deputy in 1970, and got his position as a gatekeeper since 1982. Every time Mount Merapi rumored to be erupting, the locals are always waiting for him command to flee.

His popularity surged in 2006, when Mount Merapi rumored to be erupted and he refused to evacuate. Since that incident, one of the sports drinks manufacturers even chose him to be the star of their product advertising.

Tugu Khatulistiwa


Tugu Khatulistiwa (Equator Monument) is a monument built to mark the Pontianak as a city that passed through the equator.This monument located on the Jalan Khatulistiwa, Siantan, North Pontianak, West Kalimantan Province, and became one of the icons of Pontianak.

The main attraction of this monument is at the time of culmination, when the sun was right on the equator. At that time the shadow of the monument 'disappeared' for a few seconds, even if exposed to sunlight. The event of sun culmination occur twice a year, between March 21-23 and September 21-23.
